..:: 20 years StarinkWorld - a "brief" retrospection [3] ::..

After 5 years it was about time to change the initial design of the StarinkWorld website. Until then we used a dark-blueish background and as background graphic a modified picture of the control panel from a Yamaha EX 7 synthesizer.

Now we used still a dark/blueish theme but with a sort of starfield as background and also the navigation and header elements had a sort of star/space theme.

I can't recall exactly the year, but I think it was in 2008, Sébastien (from www.synthesizergreatest.eu) provided us with an interview he conducted with Sander Bos. Sander worked for Ed as sound engineer while the Synthesizer Greatest period. This interview again has great insights from another „insider“.

Also in 2008 I was invited again by Ed Starink for another visit. After some nice small talk, and a cup of coffee he asked me to come with him in his studio because he wanted to show me a surprise.

And indeed, it was a big surprise! I followed him unsuspectingly into his studio – into his empty studio! As you might imagine I was sort of baffled, even shocked. ;-) Then Ed revealed that he sold almost his entire equipment and changed his studio setup to Mac and Logic as he felt like working in a museum. But he kept for example his MIDIfied Yamaha Grandpiano. You can read the full story "Revisited 2008" on the StarinkWorld website.

In 2009 I conducted an interview with Edward Reekers, a wellknown Dutch singer, composer and voice-over actor.

As singer he appeared on many Star Inc. releases – for example as lead voice on several Alan Parsons songs, but also on the duet "Don't give up" (composed by Peter Gabriel). If you listen carefully you also can hear him in the background of "I hear you now". He also performed on Ed's composition "Vicious Circle" for which Edward wrote the lyrics.

This interview again has some great new insights on Ed's way of working. Quote from the interview: "Ed is a professional and so am I. We don't settle for 'almost okay' we want the best results. And it's a lot of fun if you both want to work that way!"

Later on we published an abridged version of the biography of the Dutch-American singer Lucy Steymel, taken with courtesy from the official Lucy Steymel website. She unfortunately passed away in 2006 already thus I hadn't had the opportunity to interview her. In the late 70s Ed was involved in several productions for her and also composed songs for her.

Ed himself was still working concentrated on his Universe project thus we hadn't have many news for the website.

We needed to be patient.
